Getting Your Cat Comfortable with the OutBound Cat Harness

Getting Your Cat Comfortable with the OutBound Cat Harness

Posted by Jennifer Hubbard on 19th Mar 2023

This harness is different than others.

Common advice is to let your cat smell and get used to a harness for a while before putting it on.One of the reasons that I use natural leather is that most cats really like the smell.

One reason for this advice is that if a cat panics with another type of harness, they will likely escape.

The OutBound harness will safely squeeze your cat, preventing escape and actually calming them down.

I recommend starting by putting on the harness, picking up your cat and going outside. When they realize the harness means going outside, they will love it (or develop a love/hate relationship with it).

For first outings choose a quiet area. Early morning or dusk, when the birds are very active is my suggestion. Once your cat hears their first bird, they'll forget all about this weird harness thing.

Sit back and relax. Supervise your cat, they'll wrap the leash around ALL THE THINGS, but there is no risk of choking or harm.

If you are somewhere controlled, attach the leash to something and enjoy your time!

Going for a walk? There is going to be ALOT of sniffing, more than any dog you've walked. If you are on a trail or there is a border, even inexperienced cats will tend to walk straight ahead, somewhat like a dog.

Expect jumps up on walls and climbing of trees. Be sure not to let your cat get too high, just within arms reach.

When you get home, you can loosen the shock cord and simply let your cat walk forward out of the harness.
